Just three degrees south of the Equator lies the 5,895m/19,340ft high Mount Kilimanjaro. It is Africa’s highest, tallest free standing mountain and one of the most climbed mountains in the world which is permanently snow-capped. No need to have any sort of technical climbing ability for climbing a peak at high altitude. Any one can climb Mount Kilimanjaro to see the actual fabled snows there if you are physically fit and healthy and ready for physical exertion. Without having any kind of technical climbing, it can take nearly 45-75 kilometers of walking irrespective of taking any route. |

Starting from the Momela Gate, one has to cross the Ngare Nanyuki River. After that, follow the track leading into the forest. As you go on trading the path, after an hour you can reach the sacred Fig Tree Arch. As you reach the Miriakamba, you need to get prepared for Meru Crater Floor trip which normally takes two to three hour. You can start for your trip there either in the afternoon of the first day 1 or before the beginning of the second day. There is Njeku Camp, an old forest station as you cross the floor. You come across a high cliff overlooking a waterfall, and from there you have beautiful Njeku viewpoint, and also have brilliant views of the Ash Cone. |
