Best Time to Visit Tanzania for Safari

Plan Your Safari Around Wildlife, Seasons, and Scenery

tanzania-deluxe-safari_dotcomsafaris

Tanzania is a year-round safari destination, but the best time for game viewing and specific experiences depends on the weather and wildlife movements.

Dry Season (Late June – October)

  • Best time for wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources

  • Clear skies and mild temperatures

  • Great Migration viewing in the Serengeti (July–September)

  • Peak tourist season—book in advance

Short Rainy Season (November – Early December)

  • Lush green landscapes and dramatic skies

  • Fewer tourists and quieter parks

  • Good conditions in most safari destinations

  • Possible light afternoon rains

Long Rainy Season (March – May)

  • Heaviest rainfall of the year

  • Some roads may become impassable

  • Wildlife may be harder to spot due to dense vegetation

  • Ideal for budget travellers looking for lower rates and fewer crowds

  • Some camps may close for the season

Pro tip: Visit in the shoulder months of January–February or June for excellent wildlife and fewer crowds.
